Case Facts: Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward up to $ 1,000.00 for information leading to the arrest of the
person or persons responsible for endangering the welfare of a motorist.
The Pennsylvania State Police, Greensburg, Continue their investigation into an incident
of Aggravated Assault, Propulsion of Missiles and Recklessly Endangering which occurred
along State Route 136, approximately 1/4 mile west of Madison Borough, Sewickley Township
in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. On Friday, October 17, 1997, at approximately 1:05
a.m., a motorist was traveling westbound along State Route 136, when a yet unknown
suspect(s) in an oncoming vehicle launched a large cantaloupe-sized limestone rock at the
victim's vehicle. the rock smashed through the windshield and struck the victim in the
face. The motorist was hit just below the nose, splitting the upper and lower lips to the
bone. Injuries were also sustained to the chest area, in addition to broken bones in the
jaw, nose and left cheek. Several teeth were also knocked out. Reconstructive surgery will
be required due tot he nature of the injuries suffered by the victim. The suspect vehicle,
possibly a dark colored Chevrolet, Cavalier fled the scene eastbound on State Route 136.
Three additional occurrences, none with injuries, were reported to authorities along the
same stretch of Highway following this incident. To date State Police have six related
incidents and neighboring Forward Twp. Police are investigating five incidents which are
similar in nature. In July of 1997, North Huntingdon Police investigated two incidents
where the suspect vehicle matches the vehicle involved in this latest incident.
