The Pennsylvania State Police at Butler continue
to investigate an incident that occurred at Crompton Corporation in Fairview
Township, Butler County on April 10-11, 2002.
This crime occurred when an unknown person cut a telephone cable that led to Crompton Corporation. The cable that was cut was located along Petrollia Road, approximately .4 miles west of SR268 in Fairview Township, Butler County. It is believed that the suspect backed up a pickup truck or similar type vehicle to the pole that the cable was located on and cut the telephone cable. After cutting the cable on the pole, a chain that was securing the exterior gate to Crompton Corporation was also cut. The suspect proceeded onto Crompton's property and walked down a wooded path to the junction box. Once at the junction box, the telephone wires within were cut. At the time that this crime was committed, employees at Crompton Corporation
were on strike. The cable, which was cut, controlled all of the telephone
lines into and out of the Crompton Corporation. It must be noted that
this company is a large refinery located in the Petroleum Valley Area
of Butler County. If an emergency had taken place at this facility, there
would have been no way to secure assistance. Crompton Corporation is also offering additional reward money for information
that leads to an arrest. What You Can Do:
