The Pennsylvania state police, Butler, is seeking the whereabouts of Charles Edward Mathis for forgery and theft by deception.

When the evening of November 8, 1999, Mathis arrived at a Giant Eagle  grocery store in Center Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. He presented what appeared to be an employee check from Bob Evans restaurant to a teller and received cash in the amount owed $395.00 The check was written on a false account and investigators have learned that the check was counterfeit. Identical checks have been passed in Washington, Allegheny, Crawford and York counties the subject has identification cards in the states of Tennessee, Ohio and West Virginia; it is assumed that similar transactions have occurred in these states.

Addresses listed by Mathis in Knoxville, Tennessee, and at 147 Ohio Street, Washington, Pennsylvania have proven to be false. Authorities have issued a warrant for the suspect. The warrant was issued under the assumed name of Charles Edward Mathis; it is unknown what the suspect's actual name may be.
