Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers Tip Results in Arrest of Fugitive
Harrisburg (Jan. 25) -- A tip received by Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers resulted in the apprehension of Louis Greenley. Greenley, 37 years of age - from the Harrisburg area was the suspect in an Armed Robbery Investigation. The Lower Allen Township Police Department, Camp Hill, Cumberland County Pennsylvania, were investigating an Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault that resulted in the injury of a Police Officer. Shortly before 8:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 28, 1998, Louis Greenley is alleged to have entered the Rite-Aid Store on Simpson Ferry Road, Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County, and demanded money from the store's cashier. He advised the cashier that he had a gun and was going to shoot her. An off-duty Hampden Township Police Officer entered the store, identified himself and ordered the suspect to surrender. A struggle ensued, at which time Greenley bit the officer in the neck and attempted to gain control of the officer's weapon; a round was fired, striking the officer in the finger.
The struggle continued into the parking lot and as Greenley was attempting to flee in his vehicle, he struck the officer causing further injury. Greenley then fled the area.
On Monday January 25, 1999, Greenley was apprehended in the North Versailles area of Allegheny County (approximately 15 miles southeast of Pittsburgh), by the Greater Pittsburgh Fugitive Task Force (GPFTF). The GPFTF is comprised of Federal, State and Local Police Officers.
The apprehension was a direct result of a tip that was received by Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers. Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on January 25, Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers received a telephone call from a tipster regarding Greenley. The unidentified caller provided information regarding the location of Greenley, a physical description and information regarding the possession of a possible fake weapon. The Information was immediately forwarded to the Pennsylvania State Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit. A Trooper who is assigned to the GPFTF responded with other members of the team and took Greenley into custody with little incident.
At the time of apprehension Greenley did have in his possession a fake handgun.
Greenley was apprehended within twenty minutes of the initial call to Pennsylvania Crime
Stoppers. Greenley is currently incarcerated at the Allegheny County Prison. Greenley is
originally from the Pittsburgh area.
Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers will be paying up to $ 1,000.00 and Rite Aid Corporation will
be paying an additional $ 2,500.00 reward to the tipster.
Greenley was apprehended through the cooperation and effort all agencies involved.
