The Pennsylvania State Police, Troop D, Butler continue to investigate numerous cases of Theft in the Butler County and surrounding areas in Pennsylvania.   According to investigators, there has been a large increase in the number of thefts of motor vehicle parts involving the removal of catalytic converters. The suspects(s) are removing the catalytic converters by either cutting the pipes on both ends of the part with a torch or other cutting instrument.   The parts are being sold at various locations.   Investigators are cautioning people to be vigilant of this type of activity in the Park and Ride sites, salvage yards, auto dealers or repair lots. Also, areas where vehicles are left parked overnight or for extended periods of time.
